Insulation can reduce heat movement from a hot roof, attic, wall, or other assembly, but it is not the automatic answer to every summer comfort complaint.
Look for a repeatable pattern
One hot room may involve a local airflow, control, window, duct, or equipment issue. Several units on the same floor or building side can justify a broader review of the roof, attic, envelope, distribution, and cooling load.
Inspect before selecting material
Existing insulation depth and condition, gaps, access, moisture, ventilation, wiring, flues, ducts, and the intended thermal boundary all affect the scope. Product choice follows the assembly.
Review air sealing separately
Air sealing and insulation perform different functions. If uncontrolled airflow is contributing to the problem, the scope should identify appropriate locations and materials without blocking required ventilation or compromising a safety assembly.
Use current program information
Some qualifying multifamily properties may be eligible for incentives. Utility service, account type, approved measures, funding, and final review determine the result.
